Tissue Culture Plants?

  • Size: ~ 2.5x2.5 inch
  • Lab Grown Plants
  • Snail, Algae & Pest Free

Staurogyne Repens Tissue Culture is a versatile low-growing plant with beautiful creeping leaves. Perfect for planted aquariums, this species is a top choice for covering even low-tech tanks with no CO2 injection. Developed relatively recently, this naturally compact plant is easy to maintain and ideal for smaller aquariums and low-tech setups, though it can also thrive with high-tech resources. It can form dense clumps due to its horizontal stem growth, making it a great option for achieving a lush foreground "lawn" or "carpet". Additionally, this plant can thrive with or without carbon dioxide and is substantially more user-friendly than other popular small-leaf carpet plants such as HC Cube, Monte Carlo, or Glosso.
Add this stunning and multipurpose plant to your planted aquarium for a captivating and cohesive waterscape. Staurogyne Repens Tissue Culture is highly adaptable and will thrive in small containers as well as serve as an ideal foreground. It absorbs nutrients from the substrate and water column, making it a great addition to your tank. Ensure good nutrition by using carbon dioxide and providing ample lighting for a dense yet tidy growth. This hardy plant is a great competitor for resources and should be fertilized to maintain its health and vitality.

Difficulty: Easy

Type: Low growing stem plant

Size: Depending on pruning size will vary. Plants can maintain anywhere from 5 - 20cm in lateral (horizontal) growth.

Native Range: Brazil (endemic to the Rio Cristalino of the Southern Amazon)

Position and Usage: Carpet or foreground

Growth Rate: Moderate in the beginning and then fast following a period of root development.

Lighting: 2/5 - 5/5

Staurogyne Repens can be maintained by short pruning, resulting in a slightly higher than average foreground. It is one of the few carpet species that can survive and even thrive in poorly lit, low-tech tanks. However, Staurogyne also grows well in high light and can send out creeping runners that can quickly cover the foreground without disturbing the aquarium. Although this plant can absorb many nutrients from the water column, it is a voracious root feeder and requires a rich, fertile and good substrate. It is one of the few carpet plants that does not require carbon dioxide injection, although supplements will increase growth dramatically. Given the space, flowering specimens can maintain up to 20 cm of lateral growth. This growth can be cut and replanted in the substrate, although the cuttings must be at least a few inches long and contain several nodes. It is recommended to remove the leaves from all nodes of the stem except at the top of the plug (be careful not to damage the main stem)..
